Skylark
Ostmodern tasked me with creating a truly flexible CMS, in which they can create bespoke front-end designs. The CMS is specialised to the broadcast industry using an API framework which empowers editorial and product teams. The CMS will be used for world leading VOD products such as the BFI, BBC and Newscorp.
Gathering Requirements
This is just one example of a feature I developed later on, once Skylark was live. I was tasked with understanding how we can schedule content across countries.
The requirements were always given to me from the CTO of Ostmodern and developers in which I had to interpret and make into form a brief.
Early in the project, it was clear that with such an amazing archive of content that would have a personal connection to people, primarily through location, the footage had to be shown on a map.
I began to analyse the data and plot the content on a map to see how the data looked across the UK.
Concept Sketching
Once all the requirements had been gathered I always began sketching this into a wireframe, trying to make it as simple as possible.
It was always a nice challenge, converting these complex requirements into an easy and simple system to use.
After talking to stakeholders, it was clear that device, language and affiliates all had equal weighting which all could effect the front end drastically. I put this into a ‘rights’ dropdown so it was all grouped together.
Production Wireframes
Building upon the whiteboard sketch, I then put them into a more solid wireframe building upon it’s fidelity. This was then reviewed, signed off and then put into design. A top bar was introduced to help the user anchor and filter the scheduled content.
Product Release
For Clients as diverse as BBC, News Corp and the BFI they have complete control over their product. I have delivered a service that can deliver customised content experiences to audiences across the country.
